Edward M. Kennedy

TRIBUTES

Michael McCormick

In 1969, I was in the Army stationed in Germany. I wrote to Sen. Kennedy expressing my views of the Lt. Calley case and asking him what how he felt about it. At the end of my letter, I mentioned how a roommate was displaying a Confederate flag and how great it would be if I had a Massachusetts state flag to display.

About three weeks later I received a letter explaining how he had felt and encourging me to continue doing my best. Along with the letter was a beautiful Massachusetts State Flag that I still have. What impressed me most of all was he took the time out of his busy day to answer me. I've been forever grateful.
